An uber-Republican relative of mine sent an e-mail forward of the latest from David Limbaugh, younger brother of Rush, wherein he accuses the Democrats (aka "leftists") and Obama supporters of being "poor winners." Oh, puh-leeze! As if the Republicans--if our country had been so stupid, benighted, and unfortunate as to have elected another 'Publican to the presidency--wouldn't have been strutting and crowing as if they were the kings of the midden hill.
I read Limbaugh's whine with the greatest of glee, contrasting, in my mind, how it would have been had McCain won. All I could think was, "The shoe surely pinches when it's on the other foot, doesn't it?"
A "good" laugh? Nah. Let me rephrase that: An excellent laugh!

You know... for all the "woe are we" attitude that Limbaugh and his kind have, they couldn't be happier than a first grade class in a piƱata store.
ReplyDeleteBecause Republicans were so modest and humble when W. was elected both times.
ReplyDeleteI wish our pres would be MORE of a "poor winner"! He has been so intent on being Post-Partisan and "reaching across the aisle" that he has gutted the spending bill, and made silly cabinet choices and abhorrent choices in inauguration invitations (yes, Rick Warren - I refuse to get past that disgustingly bigoted decision).
ReplyDeleteObama has a nigh-on bullet-proof majority, but he's so anxious to placate those who wouldn't give dems an inch of space the last 8 years it's ridiculous. And insulting. And a tad bit frightening. There's no way McCain would do the same (that guy has already reversed his own campaign positions on infrastructure policies like internet for rural areas), and so far all the kow-towing has resulted in ZERO votes. So what the hell is the point? Obama grants concession after concession, and they still give him ZERO votes. I think Rachel (Maddow) has the right of it: he is chasing that "hard to get" person, who will always be too much of an asshole to ever be "caught".
That being said, there is a backlash that might be proving our president (God, I love calling him the president!) right: the GOP *is* taking pointers from Rush, and the result is that a bunch of their Congressional members are stating that they will bow out from running for re-election. So people with brains are distancing themselves; the one staying in office are shooting themselves in the foot by refusing to cooperate in the least.
The end result could very well be that reps/senators will learn to deal, or bow out, or be replaced. It's still too soon to tell. I'm just scared that Obama might be wasting his mandate (which he DOES have, unlike that which Bush inaccurately claimed), and we'll be left with another 4 years of "negotiating" that amounts to nothing.
/end rant
